Story:

We believe everyone deserves access to affordable, fresh, and healthy food.

Mission:

We have a two-pronged mission here at Misfits Market: to provide affordable access to healthy food and to fight the food waste crisis. Bring delicious, fresh, and affordable rescued produce to people everywhere and reduce food waste at a scale that creates positive and lasting impact. Unlike other brands, we aren’t focused just on dense urban areas. We are made to go to every zip code in the states we serve, and be within reach of every household. We are putting fresh produce that might not check all the boxes for perfection into boxes, and sending it straight to you. Sooner than you’d be able to buy it at a store. For half the price. And most importantly, our location is your location. Whether you’re next door to a fancy grocery store, in the middle of a food desert, or somewhere in between. Every box of Misfits Market produce you order benefits farmers, helps prevent food waste, and ultimately helps save our environment. Our rapidly expanding Greater Philadelphia-based operation rescues produce from regional farms and distributes it throughout the Northeast, South, and Midwest in three business days or less.

Sustainability:

All of the produce in your weekly Misfits Market box is certified organic and non-GMO, sourced from hand-picked farms and partners in our region and across the Americas. This means that they avoid using synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, are prohibited from using genetic engineering or genetically modified organisms, and, according to the USDA, "rely on natural substances and physical, mechanical, or biologically based farming methods to the fullest extent possible." Our Eco-Friendly Packaging RECYCLABLE AND COMPOSTABLE We pride ourselves on our forward-thinking packaging. Our recycled cardboard boxes are 100% recyclable, and we're testing a few types of eco-friendly insulation that protect your veggies in transit. (In warmer weather, we also use nontoxic ice packs made from a water-based formula.) POPBOX WITH PAPERLITE This five-sided piece is made of 100% paper so it's certified curbside recyclable. Its thin profile saves resources (no plastic necessary!) and the fluted design custom fits your Misfits Market box to help protect your items in transit. CLIMACELL INSULATED LINER With an interior that’s 100% percent curbside recyclable, this paper-based insulation is filled with air to help cushion your veggies. It’s covered by a clear film exterior that you can recycle with other #4 plastics. COMPOSTABLE BAGS We make every effort to minimize the use of resources, however, in some instances it’s necessary to protect more sensitive items in transit. In lieu of plastic produce bags, we use a plant-based bag with a resin compound. It's fully compostable at home or via municipal/industrial composting services. If no such composting services exist near you, you can always reuse them. And you can rest assured that they'll biodegrade far faster than plastic even if they do end up in the trash.
